Trainee mechanic who fell from bridge while celebrating 21st birthday

This tribute is dedicated to Jamie Bruce, who died after falling from a bridge while out celebrating his 21st birthday.

Jamie, of St Thomas, Exeter, suffered multiple injuries when he fell from New Bridge Street onto Tudor Street, near the Exe Bridges, in St Thomas in the early hours of 20 June, 2009. He died in hospital five days later.

He was on his way home after a night out with friends in Exeter to celebrate his milestone birthday.

The former Montgomery Primary School and West Exe Technology College pupil was training to be a mechanic. His family received news after his death that he had passed his final exams.

His father, James, said: "He had the rest of his life to look forward to. He had just passed his qualifications and he didn't even know. We are so proud of him."

Your thoughts

Well done to the staff who run this site. It's very touching that there is somewhere like this to come and remember people. Keep up the good work. Andrea Corker
Many thanks for your swift response. It's so refreshing to contact a company and get both an immediate reply and, crucially, some action — WELL DONE! Barbara Witowska
Would like to say what a lovely site this is. As you can see Gareth was well loved and it's so nice that all of his friends and loved ones can leave a memory of him that will last for years. Edward Cooney
